1) Which geographic area does SJD cover?

For commercial and industrial clients and projects, SJD normally works within a 30 mile radius of Milton Keynes including Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire. For group clients across multiple sites or those with specific technological requirements, SJD will discuss your needs and can provide nationwide coverage. Isotrak Case Study. For minor domestic works only, it is not usually economical for SJD to travel beyond the Milton Keynes and Leighton Buzzard areas to provide a free survey. Please call for advice if you are unsure of the scope of works required, SJD are always happy to discuss your requirements and provide information. For substantial electrical installations, re-wires or complicated projects, SJD are happy to survey within Milton Keynes and the regions of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire.

2) Will SJD carry out a free survey of my site?

Yes. Every prospective installation is surveyed by one of the SJD management team to determine the scope of works, your needs, and how they can be met. You will receive a full individual proposal and recommendations with your quotation.

3) Does SJD only do electrical installations?

No. The SJD team have extensive experience in the design, installation and testing of CCTV and Access Control Systems, Data Cabling, Server Rooms, Fire Alarm and Emergency Lighting Installations. SJD has excellent relationships with proven specialist contractors for the supply and maintenance of Fire Extinguishers, custom Control Panels, Street Lighting, Remote Security Monitoring, Lightning Protection, Building works and maintenance and decorating.

4) How can I be sure my installation will meet the required standard?

SJD is an NICEIC Approved Contractor and Domestic Installer and is accredited by the ECA (Electrical Contractors Association), ConstructionLine, CHAS, and Trustmark. The NICEIC inspects SJD’s electrical installation on an annual basis and SJD’s Qualified Supervisor inspects work undertaken on a weekly basis to ensure standards are upheld. SJD’s employees are issued with a Company Handbook, undergo regular training and work to the highest standards.

5) Does SJD guarantee its work?

Yes, for a period of 6 years from completion subject to terms and conditions. From January 1st 2009, the ECA’s Guarantee of Work Scheme will automatically apply to jobs up to £50,000 Link to PDF Specialist insurance backed warranties and performance bonds are also available. Through SJD’s membership of the NICEIC, if there is an issue with the technical standard of electrical work that cannot be resolved the NICEIC’s guarantee of standards scheme means any deficiency will be resolved without additional cost to the consumer. Domestic electrical installations to £25,000 are also protected by the NICEIC Insurance Backed Warranty.

6) I've heard about the British Standard 17th Edition. What is this?

BS 7671:2008, known as the 17th Edition of the IET wiring regulations came into force in July 2008. There are substantial differences to the method of electrical installation, particularly in relation to methods of shock protection. Already, the SJD employees have been or are being trained to 17th Edition. This is vitally important because the previous regulations (16th Edition) are now out-of-date and the formal requirement is for contractors to be qualified within 3 years.

7) I need an electrical contractor who can comply with the Part P regulations. Can SJD help?

Yes. SJD’s team comply with Part P legislation including notification within 30 days. The company’s commitment to training means you can rely on SJD to be up-to-date on all the latest technical and regulatory standards.

8) How will my project be managed by SJD ?

SJD has a team of 3 highly experienced project managers. Using dedicated computer software, your project manager tracks the progress of your installation. Your project manager is also responsible for the day to day management of the installation team working on your site.

9) Does SJD use sub-contractors?

SJD directly employs its own team of skilled and qualified electricians to maintain flexibility and service. If sub-contractors are required for specialist applications or large construction projects, only those with the necessary skills and experience will be used, in accordance with our Control of Contractors procedure. Any sub-contractors must work to the same high standards as SJD’s own team

10) What guarantee do I have that my project will be completed on time?

SJD Associates Ltd has an enviable reputation for delivering its projects on time. Your project manager will track the progress of your installation every step of the way. However, occasionally unforeseen problems do occur. If this is the case with your installation, your project manager will advise you immediately, and let you know what is being done to resolve the problem.

11) What sort of large-scale projects does SJD work on?

SJD regularly works on large projects. One such project was nationwide installation in supermarket giant, Sainsburys’ stores. Another was the new St John’s Ambulance Training Centre in Milton Keynes, which was opened by The Queen in November 2007. SJD is currently working on the construction of Bourton Meadow School, Buckingham.

12) Can SJD provide me with ongoing maintenance on my site?

Yes. SJD specialise in long-term working relationships. Much of SJD’s work is providing back-up and support for its clients, often working closely with the Health and Safety or Maintenance Manager and quickly becoming a trusted member of the client’s team.

13) Can SJD help me with my electrical tests and inspections?

Yes. SJD is qualified to carry out any electrical testing or inspections required by law. SJD builds long-term relationships with its clients, and will advise you when your tests and inspections are due. This way, you can be sure your electrical testing and inspection certificates are up-to-date and you are complying with the letter of the law.

14) Will SJD come out if I have an emergency?

Yes. In the event of an emergency, SJD will respond quickly to help you resolve your problems. As SJD works mainly in the commercial and industrial markets, it doesn’t operate a 24 hour call out service. However, mobile phones are never switched off!

15) I want to save money on my electricity charges. Can SJD help?

Yes. Effective design is the best way to minimise energy wastage. SJD encourages its clients to use the latest low-energy solutions. This might include the use of Energy Voltage Regulators and low energy lighting solutions. SJD can prepare energy reports and advise you on how to reduce your energy costs.

SJD has its own environmental policy and complies fully with the WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and Hazardous Waste regulations .
