Fire Alarm Systems

Fire Alarms

Most commercial and industrial premises are required to have a fire detection and alarm system installed in accordance with BS5839.

SJD’s fire alarm and emergency lighting services include:
  • Risk Assessment
  • Design
  • Installation
  • Maintenance
  • Commissioning
  • Testing
  • Servicing.
Few incidents can cause as much damage or destruction as fire. Even a small isolated fire can do untold damage to buildings, result in the loss of critical data, and even cause loss of life.

Many fires can be prevented with adequate fire protection and fire alarm devices. SJD’s specialist team can help you comply with the Fire Regulations and prevent fires in your workplace with:
  • Fire alarm panels
  • Automatic fire detectors
  • Sprinkler systems
  • Smoke detectors
  • Manual call points
  • Sounders, bells, and strobes
  • Illuminated exit signs
  • Emergency lighting

SJD ensure that your system meets the primary function of detecting a fire or fire condition and sounding audible alarms in all or part of the building. SJD ensures detectors are sited to prevent false alarms.

Emergency Lighting

SJD engineers will test the existing emergency lighting in your premises, and can advise on and supply BS5266 compliant emergency lighting products and services.

In the event of fire, it is essential that the safest and quickest routes to exit are displayed. SJD can help you to position your signs correctly and ensure that they work on battery backup in an emergency situation.

How does SJD deliver this service?
  • SJD employ trained specialist fire sector engineers
  • SJD ensure that our teams are always working to the latest standards
  • Full range of emergency lighting and signs available
  • All signs comply with 'Signs and Signals regulation'
Building Regulations specify the need for emergency lighting in the workplace. Emergency lighting can be installed as part of your lighting installation, or retro-fitted to an existing installation.

Emergency lighting is intended to provide sufficient illumination to help people see their way to safety in the event of a fire or other emergency.   Your emergency lighting must be positioned correctly.

SJD can advise you on all your emergency lighting and testing. Emergency lighting is designed and installed to the requirements of the national safety standards BS5266-1 and BS-EN1838, to enable buildings to meet fire safety legislation including the positioning of emergency luminaires, minimum height levels, acceptable glare levels, and minimum routine testing schedules.

To comply with the legislation, your emergency lighting must be positioned:
  • Along escape routes
  • At every change in direction
  • Adjacent to any step or trip hazard
  • On every flight of stairs
  • Close to fire fighting equipment and call points
  • Close to any first aid points
  • Outside every final exit
SJD can assist in providing fire alarm and emergency lighting risk assessment to ensure your compliance with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (Effective Oct 2006).
